5 days of giving...

Last week, we were able to celebrate and recognise some wonderful volunteers in our community. Thanks to the support of Transgrid with double passes to Moama Lights, we recognised 23 volunteers. This is such a small token of appreciation for all the work they do for the community. Speaking with the volunteers I was able to hear how they came to be involved in their volunteering positions. The main reasons being:

  • To give back to the community

  • It's a great way to learn valuable skills for future career opportunities

  • Wanting to meet other people in the community as a new resident to the area.

Our community volunteers value the connection these opportunities have provided them. They’ve been able to make lifelong friends with a supportive group of people, giving them an interest and something to look forward to. They are, however, in need of more volunteers. Many have been in committee roles for a long time and would love to see a newer, younger generation get more involved. With fresh and new ideas, they can help in keeping these committees running and making sure they maintain interest in their events or services. We’ve all said, "one day I might do that". I heard a saying once, "If not you, who? And if not now, when?" When is a good time to put your hand up and make the decision to help out? There are many volunteering opportunities in our community available right now. You just have to make the decision to get involved. Maybe now is your time.
